So today the Knicks tip-off their season. You would think the true Knick fan would be optimisic with a new pres, new coach and some new players…but of course this is New York!. All day long on sports talk radio stations in the nyc I hear callers complaining about how the Knicks release Patrick Ewing Jr! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! The way these fans were acting it was if the Knicks had giving up Lebron or Kobe! It was if every other NBA team had fallen asleep and let Ewing Jr., who was drafted in the Second Round, sneak by them. Please folks stop living in the past…Let the new Knicks create their own era, cus papa Ewing will not reincarnate in his boy. But here’s a little something to remember one of the greatest centers of all time.

Celtics destroy Lakers

June 18, 2008

The old adage is true. Defense wins championships. Congrats to KG, Pierce, and Ray-Ray, you guys deserve it.

OK, I’ve been gone for a couple of weeks…my apologies. I’ve been rethinking my blog and with that I hadn’t been inspired to contribute to hoopdini…but stay tuned hoopdini will be revamped and emerged into something big. Now back to work.

First off Lakers, Laker fans, and analysts alike…basically everyone on the “Lakers, has the best player in the world, so their gonna win the finals bandwagon,” last nights game said it all. To catch everyone up, the Lakers we’re on a complete tear last night in game 4 of the finals. The we’re up by like 24 points at one point in the first half. Yes 24. But it was in the first half and it is the NBA, did we forget? Yes, Kobe is the MVP but just like every team sport you need the team to win the game. The Lakers looked like a team in the first half then wait for Kobe to carry them to the win. Opps sorry that didn’t happen. My blood boils when I hear analyst saying Kobe this, and Kobe that…sure he’s talented and great we know that but the last time I check Wilt Chamberlin was the only guy that can score 100 points and that wasn’t in a finals game. Reality check peeps basketball is a team sport and the Celtics have a more complete team than the Lakers. The C’s are more athletic , more talented and more HUNGRY! Ray-Ray man what a turn around series your having. I killed ya verses the Pistons and you have been shutting me up in the Finals, do your thing man! That ring is in site.

So whats gonna happen in game 5. Well lets see. I think the Lakers might pulled this one out but it will be close…but don’t be surprise if the C’s just can’t wait to game 6 and put the rings in 5.

Foul mouth Rasheed after game loss. Check it

Is there such a thing as a good non-call? In the Lakers vs. Spurs the Refs swallow their whistles in the final seconds when Fisher commits an obvious foul on Brent Barry. Yes the game is on the line. You must make that call…it was TOO OBVIOUS..

Derek Fisher fouls Brent Barry

Pistons looked good, but is anyone surprised? This series is not going to be a short one. It will go 7. Boston’s 3 party looked tired and sluggish, while the Pistons looked sharp. Speaking of the Pistons, I found this youtube video of Detroit doing some trick shots during practice. Check it.

Boston’s strong defense led them to their first road win in the playoffs, can you believe it?!
Garnett looked like The Big Ticket. Pierce contributed and Allen showed signs of life.

Detroit looked slow and sluggish. Billups what kind of game was that? 1-6 from the field?

Lakers demolished the Spurs in game 2 of the conference finals. Odom showed up for this game. During the post game interview Odom mentions to Sager that he change his shoes at half-time and put on some KB nike’s. That comment took me back. Way back to the Mars Blackmon days.

Me and Kobe

May 23, 2008

“Kobe Bryant the best player in the NBA” is a common quote I’ve heard for many many years. My relationship with Kobe as been a roller coaster. Mind you, I don’t know the guy personally but we definitely have had our ups and downs.

First he comes into the league straight out of high school. Back then I could not stand Teams drafting players that early. I felt that they weren’t ready and most weren’t. Players would spend roughly three years on the bench before seeing them turn into “something.” So from the beginning I wasn’t feeling Kobe because of the straight to high school thing, but I got over it.

Second, Kobe wanting be the star over Shaq in L.A. Sure they won Titles but really KB you were playing with Shaq…not the other way around. Shaq was the star. So Kobe’s “arrogance” yes that word is used a lot with Kobe, was another pet peeve I had against the guy.

Third, so Shaq leaves L.A. or gets pushed out…whatever and NOW Kobe has the team to himself. He’s the star! I still wasn’t on the Kobe bandwagon at this point. Yes he was a scoring machine. He can not be stop. But the Lakers weren’t winning as everyone had thought. So with the losing Kobe starts to change a bit. It seems as if he’s more humbled. Doesn’t seem as arrogant as he did when Shaq was on his team and they we’re winning championships. At this point my Kobe boycott was beginning to disappear. I was starting to give KB his props. Kobe was finally HUMBLED! or was he?

Flash-forward 2008 NBA Conference Finals Lakers vs. Spurs game 1. Now, I’m feeling good about KB. He’s humble, he’s thinking about his teammates. Giving them their props. I’m good with Kobe. But then, he brings it ALL back down. With the come from behind win in that game Kobe very “arrogantly” says “I can turn it on at anytime” WTF!

Dude you ruined it.

Pierce and Garnett continue to play well in Game 1 of conference finals though Allen continues his scoring struggles.

Ray-Ray needs to end his slump. He’s too talented of a shooter to be going through his shooting woes for this long. Lets get with it man.

Boston started off on the right foot in Game 1. The C’s seem to be riding their high from a exciting game 7 win over the Cavs while the Pistons actually seem to have some rust, if that’s possible during this time of the year. Though we all know that the Pistons will come back to make this a long 7 game series.
